Papercraft Green Lantern Mask

Green Lantern, a DC Comics' superhero, will finally make it to the big screen this June. There have been several versions of Green Lantern in comic books since the 1940's, but the upcoming movie will feature Hal Jordan, the Silver Age version of the character. One thing common to all Green Lanterns over the years is a green mask. Pictured above is a papercraft version of Green Lantern's mask by Dancin_Fool at 405th.com. The template for the mask is available in Pepakura PDO format only and comes uncolored (white), so if you want the green color shown, either you will need to modify the unlocked PDO or paint the mask after it is built. The mask template may be downloaded here.

Predator Bio Mask Papercraft

Here is a full scale Predator bio mask papercraft by jango.clone. I am not sure of the origin of the 3D model used in this papercraft, but it may be from one of the video games from the Alien vs. Predator franchise. According to the AVP Wiki, bio masks:
"...contain a variety of functions which the Predators may require during a hunt. As well as protecting the Predator's head, the mask has a sound amplifier, multiple vision modes, a zoom function, some diagnostic capabilities and a recording system. The bio mask may also have a red targeting laser, used by a Predator for accurate plasma caster shots."
The template for the mask is available in both PDF and Pepakura PDO format.

Printable E.T. Mask

I think this mask of E.T. the Extra-Terrestial is exceptionally well done for having been drawn with markers on brown construction paper. Creator Kevin Gritzke used the mask as part of a costume back in 2007. The mask can be downloaded from Gritzke's Flickr page here.

Gremlins Papercraft: Printable Mask

The comedy horror movie Gremlins gave many a child nightmares in the 80's. Now thanks to UK illustrator Nik Holmes you can make your own cartoonish mask of the movie's troublesome little monsters. The two page printable template for the mask is available at Holmes' blog here.

The Last Airbender Papercraft: Blue Spirit Mask

In the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated television show, in an episode entitled "The Blue Spirit", there is a mysterious character who wears a blue mask. This papercraft by deviantART member "Altenatecoppa" is a recreation of that mask. Even though there are some well done shading effects that make it look 3D, the mask is entirely flat except for the nose. A download of the template is available here. The build photo above is by deviantART member "Paperart".

Harry Potter Papercraft: Death Eater Mask #8

Around Halloween last year I released a series of seven papercraft Death Eater masks. I am adding an eighth mask to the set this year as I patiently wait for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie to be released in November. :) As with the previous masks, there are both full size and half size templates available. Both sizes are included in the zip file which can be downloaded here. If you missed the previous Death Eater masks you can take a peek at them here.

Death Eater Mask #1 Build Photo

Gregory Belland sent me this excellent build photo of my Death Eater Mask #1 papercraft. Greg told me he built the mask for a friend then took this photograph which he entitled Death Eater Prepares. Seeing this photo makes me want to do some more Death Eater masks. ;) Nice work Greg!

Need a quick Cyberman mask? The Doctor Who Insania blog has just the thing, a printable 2D mask of one of the good doctor's most persistent enemies. Predator Helm Papercraft

Some guys at the 405th Infantry Division costuming forum have put together a template for a full size papercraft model of the helmets that appear in the Predator movies. These helmets are worn by the extraterrestrial predators themselves and in the movies are only occasionally removed to reveal the grotesque faces that lie beneath. The Pepakura PDO file of the template was posted by 405th forum member Spartan857 while the original 3D model was created by member Droodles. Go here for a download of the template.

Brad and Angelina 3D Papercraft Masks

These photo-realistic 3D paper masks of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are at the same time creepy and fascinating. The thought of people actually wearing these masks makes me a little uncomfortable. It reminds me of that scene in The Silence of the Lambs when Hannibal Lecter wears the skin of a guard's face in order to escape prison. :P These masks are two of eight free 3D mask samples offered by ThatsMyFace.com, a website which sells gifts with personalized faces. Other masks offered include Bruce Willis, David Letterman, and Daniel Craig. Download the mask templates by clicking on the photos near the bottom of the page here.

Half-Life Papercraft: Headcrab Zombie Mask

I consider this papercraft project something of a failed experiment, but I thought I would post it anyway just in case someone else might be able to do something with it. My original goal was to take a 3D model of a headcrab zombie from the Half-Life video game and turn the zombie's head into a full size hollow paper model that could be worn as a mask. Well, that was a nice idea, but after I did a test build it became apparent that the thing was a little too strangely shaped to work well as a mask. Still, someone else might be able to modify it to get it to work. For those unfamiliar with Half-Life, headcrabs are parasitic creatures that attach themselves to a human host's head eventually turning the host into a zombie. The faint skull image that appears on this papercraft model is presumably the host's skull showing through the headcrab's tightly stretched skin. Details of the template are as follows:

Scale: 1:1 estimated
Finished Size: 15.7"(40cm) x 12.6"(32cm) x 13.8"(35cm)

Number of sheets: 12
Number of parts: 34

Doctor Who Papercraft: Robot Santa Mask

Both the 2005 and 2006 Christmas specials of the Doctor Who television show feature robot Santas. The robot Santas are villains who arm themselves with musical instruments that double as weapons. Their trombones fire mortar shells, their trumpets fire bullets and their tubas are capable of being used as flamethrowers! This 2D printable paper mask is by Peter McKinstry and is based on the robot Santas as they appeared in the 2006 special which is titled "The Runaway Bride". A download of the mask is available from the BBC website here.

Harry Potter Papercraft: Death Eater Mask #7

Here is the final mask in the Death Eater mask series. Some officially licensed product manufacturers list masks similar to this one as "Bellatrix's mask" while other sources indicate that a mask design like my papercraft Death Eater Mask #1 is the mask of Bellatrix Lestrange. If there is a Harry Potter fan out there who can clear up this discrepancy, please let me know. :) The template for Mask #7 may be downloaded here.

3D Frankenstein Monster Mask Papercraft

Apparently the real life Frankenstein Castle near Darmstadt, Germany now houses a restaurant and dinner theater! As part of the restaurant's 2009 Halloween festivities they are offering on their website a nicely done, printable 3D Frankenstein monster mask (kind of looks like Boris Karloff doesn't it?). The link for the PDF papercraft template may be found here. Instructions for assembling the mask are in German only.

Harry Potter Papercraft: Death Eater Mask #5

Five masks down and two more to go. Like Death Eater masks number one and two, this mask is based on a drawing rather than a photograph. The picture above really doesn't do justice to the intricate detail that can be seen in the PDF template of the mask. The drawing this papercraft is based on may have been done as a preliminary design by whoever built the metal mask that Death Eater mask #3 was based on. As usual, there are full size and half size templates available for download here.

Harry Potter Papercraft: Death Eater Mask #3

Another papercraft Harry Potter Death Eater mask is complete. This one is a little different than the previous two Death Eater masks in that the image used to make the model is a photograph of an actual metal mask rather than a line drawing. The ornate patterns on the original metal mask were very nicely done by whoever the craftsman was. A download of the template is here.

The second mask is finished in the papercraft series I am doing on Death Eater masks. This one is a little less ominous than the first one. As with the first mask, this papercraft is based on artwork which can be found at the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie website. I won't bore you with size information this time as it is the same as the last mask. Download the template here.

Harry Potter Papercraft: Death Eater Mask #1

The official movie website for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix contains a "Death Eater Art" section where you can download an "art kit" with example images of Death Eater masks meant to inspire you to create your own art. It just so happens that several of the images in the art kit work nicely when applied to my Kanonashi Mask template. So here is the first of what I hope will be several different papercraft Death Eater Masks. Death Eaters are the devoted followers of the dark wizard Voldemort, the prime enemy of Harry Potter throughout all the books in the Harry Potter series.
