Star Wars Papercraft: Tuantuan

One of my favorite animals in the Star Wars universe is the tauntaun. Tauntauns first appeared in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. In the film, rebel soldiers take to riding the beasts on the ice planet of Hoth when the weather proves too cold for their vehicles. This tauntaun paper model was created by Sukhoi Noturna who based his papercraft on a 3D model from the Star Wars: Battlefront II video game. The zip file download for the tauntaun includes both PDF and PDO templates as well a separate template for a rebel soldier model that fits on the tautaun's back.

Star Wars Papercraft: Life Size Yoda

It seems more and more people are creating full scale paper models from video games. This life size papercraft of Master Yoda by Noturno Sukhoi is based on a 3D model from the Star Wars: Battlefront II video game. The character Yoda (as we all know ^^) first appeared in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. The finished model stands 23.6" (60 cm) tall. The template for the model is available in Pepakura PDO format only and may be downloaded here.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Papercraft - Jedi Holocron

A couple of months ago I mentioned I wanted to start designing some Star Wars papercraft. Last week I completed my first two designs! These simple 1:1 scale paper models are of the holocron and the Kyber memory crystal which the bounty hunter Cad Bane steals from the Jedi in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television series. As the storyline of the series reveals, the Kyber crystal contains information on every known Force-sensitive child in the Star Wars universe, but the information can only be accessed by inserting the crystal inside the holocron. Star Wars Papercraft: B-wing Starfighter

The B-wing starfighter first made its appearance in the Battle of Endor scene in Star Wars Episode 6, Return of the Jedi. StarWars.com describes the B-wing as "perhaps the oddest-looking starfighter in the Rebel Alliance". The template for this papercraft B-wing by Czech designer Goozi is available here (Pepakura PDO format only).

Star Wars Papercraft: Ewok Paper Toy

This painterly 3D Ewok paper toy is the work of Australian illustrator Ashlee Duggan. Ewoks first appeared in the Star Wars movie, Return of the Jedi. Duggan aptly describes Ewoks as: "a fictional species of teddy-bear-like hunter-gathers that inhabit the forest moon of Endor. They appear as stocky, sapient bipeds which stand about one meter tall." Star Wars Papercraft: Mini Republic Gunship

The Light Armored Assault Transport (LAAT), also known as a "Republic Gunship", first appeared in Star Wars Episode 1. StarWars.com describes these gunships as "rugged, combat-equipped repulsorcraft... covered in weapons, offering air-to-ground and air-to-air support as well as serving as an infantry transport." This papercraft LAAT was created by "Starfreak" and at 1:430 scale, is only 4 cm (1.5") long. This model is only for those who own a pair of tweezers and a load of patience. ;) The PDF template may be downloaded here.

Star Wars A-wing Origami

Every once in a while I feel the need to post some origami. :) This Star Wars A-wing starfighter was folded by Jens-Helge Dahmen and is a modification of a folding pattern originally created by origami artist Adam Black. All that is required to build the A-wing is a 20x20 cm square of paper that has color on one side only. Gift wrap paper might work nicely. Dahmen's folding pattern for the A-wing is available for download here (look for the link near the bottom of the page).

Star Wars Papercraft: X-Wing Starfighter

There are quite a few different papercraft models out there of the X-Wing starfighter from the Star Wars movies, but what sets this one apart is its cartoonish looks which I find kind of cute for some reason. This model is the creation of Al MacDonald who does the online comic "Diary of a Crazed Mimbanite". The style of the X-Wing somewhat matches the style of the online comic. Al has also created a TIE fighter to go along with the X-Wing. Both templates may be downloaded here.

Star Wars Papercraft: Darth D2

What do you get when you cross the Star Wars characters Darth Maul and R2 D2? Uh... Darth D2? It is perhaps not the best designed R2 unit papercraft around, but the idea behind it is pretty amusing nonetheless. Kim Lang, who designed this Sith droid in 2009 also designed a normal R2D2 papercraft to be its companion. Both templates may be found here on Lang's website, 365characters.net. Lang's goal in starting 365characters was to create one fictional character or creature every day for a year. The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2010.

Star Wars Papercraft: RPG Holocron

Occasionally people who play roleplaying games (RPG) like to create props to enhance their game play experience. Such was the case when Wizards of the Coast forum member Ironlightsaber created this papercraft Jedi holocron for a campaign he wrote for the Star War Miniatures RPG. This cube shaped holocron was designed to be put together without glue, but for the one I built I went ahead and glued it anyway so that the seams would be tighter. Star Wars Papercraft: Imperial Starships

These Imperial starship papercraft models were created by "Da~Wind" in 2006. I am no expert when it comes to Star Wars spacecraft, but I believe that both these ships have only appeared in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (i.e. comic books, video games etc.). My experience with these type of ships has been through the Star Wars: Empire at War video game. The upper starship is a Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser which is said to be one of the older types of vessels used by the Imperial Navy. The lower starship is an Interdictor-class Star Destroyer. The distinguishing feature of these ships are the domed structures that contain gravity well projectors which prevent enemy ships from escaping to hyperspace. The templates for these ships are available in Pepakura PDO format only, but the nice thing is that the PDO files are unlocked so you can make changes to the layout and scale of the template if you desire. Paper Star Wars Lucha Libre Masks

Artist Randy Martinez has re-envisioned the masks of four Star Wars villains as if they were Mexican wrestlers. These fanciful Lucha Libre masks include General Grievous, Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Boba Fett. Each one of these printable masks is available here at the kids section of starwars.com.

Darth Maul Cubee with Sith Speeder

Illustration student Richard Sullivan was given an assignment at school to create a custom Cubee using a known character and this Darth Maul was the result. Why didn't I have these kind of assignments in school? ^^ The final template is three pages and includes two different Maul heads, two capes, a double light saber, and a Sith Speeder. Star Wars Papercraft: Jedi Holocron

In the Stars Wars universe, holocrons are crystal-lattice devices into which both the Jedi and the Sith record their experiences and knowledge for future generations. Jedi holocrons come in a variety of geometric shapes, while Sith holocrons are typically pyramids. This cube shaped Jedi holocron papercraft is the work of "Exxos" who modeled it after a holocron which appears in the Tales of the Jedi series of comic books by Dark Horse Comics. A PDF template is available here at Exxos' DeviantART page, but be forewarned that (other than the above photograph) there are no instructions included.

Custom Star Wars Cubee Papertoys

DeviantART user "Cyberdrone" has taken the free blank Cubeecraft template and created a collection of 30 custom Star Wars papercraft toys. As far as I know, each of these is an original creation which has not been posted in the official Cubeecraft gallery. Some of the other characters available but not pictured above include Count Dooku, Ashoka Tano, Kit Fisto, IG-88, Jango Fett, Mace Windu, Darth Nihilus, a Jawa, and a gonk droid. Star Wars Paper Mask Jackpot

Starwars.com has a total of 32 different paper masks available for download! The masks are offered in three separate collections. The Anakin Skywalker and General Grievous masks pictured above are part of a collection of 17 Episode III masks created by various Star Wars illustrators. Downloads of the masks may be found here. The Asajj Ventress mask is part of a collection of 6 children's party masks of Clone Wars characters. These masks were issued to celebrate the premier of the Clone Wars 3D animated television series on Cartoon Network and are available here. Finally, the C-3PO mask is available here as part of a collection of 9 masks of characters from the Star Wars Original Trilogy. These masks are scans of masks that originally appeared in the 1983 book, The Star Wars Book of Masks. Happy printing and cutting Star Wars fans!

Darth Maul Pizza Paper Toy

When I did my first pizza paper toy I really hadn't planned on doing any other ones, but shortly after I finished my first design I came across another unusual pizza I just had to do. Could it be the beginnings of a pizza papertoy series? Time will tell. ;)

In the US in 1999 just before Star Wars: Episode 1 was released, Pizza Hut participated in a massive advertising campaign to promote the movie. Part of the campaign involved pizza boxes that featured nine different characters from Episode 1. One of the characters on the large size pizza boxes was none other than Darth Maul. This papertoy is a miniature replica of that box. The first pizza papertoy had a supreme pizza. This one has a pepperoni pizza. The template info is as follows:

Star Wars Papercraft: Metro Ticket Spacecraft

Here are some cool miniature Star Wars papercraft made from Paris Metro tickets. I really admire tiny papercraft builds like this because I don't have the patience to attempt something this small! Want to give it a try but don't have a Metro ticket? No problem. The designer has a photo of a Metro ticket posted including the ticket's dimensions. Both the X-Wing Fighter and the Millennium Falcon models were designed by Hubert de Lartigue, France, 2005 and can be found here and here.

Star Wars Papercraft: Hoth Turret & Cannon

Many miniature gaming fans are turning to papercraft as a way to enhance their game play. These are two fan produced papercraft props for the Star Wars Miniatures game produced by Wizards of the Coast. The turret and cannon orginally appeared in the 1980 movie, The Empire Strikes Back. The templates for these pieces are available for download with registration at www.swminiatures.com and were designed by Eli Kurtz, Germany, 2005.
