Intel engineers predicted the implantation of chips in the brain

By 2020, users will not have to control the computer with a keyboard and mouse, says ComputerWorld. Their place in the opinion of the staff of Pittsburgh laboratory Intel, will take implanted in the brain processors. The staff of this laboratory are studying the possibility of controlling the computers, TVs and cellphones with brain waves, trapped Intel developed sensors. At Intel, hoping that users voluntarily agree to the implantation of chips.

The main advantage of the new control scheme is the freedom from any interface, no matter how intuitive they were. Researchers predict that the power of thought, users can, for example, to move from one Web page to another or to switch channels. Employees of the corporation say that 20 years ago nobody would believe that everything will carry handheld computers and suggest that a similar fate awaits their development.

While the size of the sensor are small enough to implant in his brain. The prototype sensor has placed in a special headset. Moreover, far from being completed the decoding of brain signals. Researchers have just discovered that similar images appear in different people the same way. This gives hope to recognize some standard reactions, and, consequently, the commands transmitted to the computer.

Currently, there is already a number of devices (usually called neyroshlemami) using brain waves to control electronics. Actively interested in this subject in the U.S. Armed Forces. While all these devices require careful adjustment, often incorrectly triggered and not implanted in the brain.

Compiled by three-dimensional map of the distribution of stars in the Milky Way

Specialists from the Institute of Astronomy them. Max Planck (Germany), National Accelerator Laboratory. Fermi, Raytheon Company and the University of Michigan (all - USA) estimated the parameters 240 thousand stars and created a chart of volume distribution of stellar matter in our galaxy.

We used data collected as part of the project SEGUE - large-scale spectroscopic investigations of stars of the Milky Way, because other sources of primary information, the authors have not been on mapping shows only the northern celestial hemisphere.

Vertical lines mark the intervals of latitude for different values of longitude, which were investigated in the framework of the project SEGUE (an illustration of The Astrophysical Journal).

To determine the position of the star, it is necessary, as is known, to establish its absolute magnitude, knowing how much it differs from the apparent magnitude, we can calculate the distance that separates the observer from the object. Rate the absolute magnitude helps Hertzsprung - Russell, linking this option with the color of the star. Computer program used by the authors to submit data as Hess diagrams, which are easily obtained after determining the position of stars in the Hertzsprung - Russell.

When you create maps of astrophysics into account two characteristics of celestial bodies: the mass and Metallicity. In other words, the card allows you to estimate the change of density and metallicity of stellar material in the volume of the Milky Way.

Researchers have identified several previously unknown areas of increased density of matter in different parts of the galaxy, which require further study.

The distribution of stellar matter in the Milky Way. Corresponding to each image of galactic longitude listed below, black color indicates the highest density, with the transition to a lighter shade points lower density of 10 times.

Problems continue to plague Symbian and Sony Ericsson.

Problems continue to plague Symbian and Sony Ericsson. As it became known, the Swedish-Japanese company yesterday confirmed that one of its latest smartphone, Aino, also found some problems with touch screen, reports Reuters.

According to the official representative of Sony Ericsson UK, Mattias Holm (Mattias Holm), some users Aino in the UK complained that the touch screen of the smartphone "buggy" and the vehicle becomes unstable. Recall that the Aino is one of the latest smartphone in the model number of Sony Ericsson, and this is the second model, suffers from similar problems (after Satio). Smartphone is rather expensive (the cost is around $ 600) and has a very interesting feature: it is compatible with the PlayStation 3 and can serve as a remote control when it comes to playing media on this game console.

As stated by Mattias Holm, Sony Ericsson is actively working on a mistake and will soon release a patch. He also expressed confidence that the incident was touched upon only a small number of users in the UK and will not affect the reputation of the SE. In principle, in his words, a large proportion of truth, as the Aino, as we have mentioned above, is quite expensive model. Nevertheless, let us not forget that the Christmas season in the West has already begun, and if SE is not able to promptly release a patch, this incident may cause the Swedish-Japanese company great damage.

Apparently, Symbian continues to take positions in the smartphone market, where the iPhone and Android ruled a ball. It turns out that not only Sony Ericsson, and Nokia is also facing similar problems. As it turned out, the Nokia N97 recently discovered problems with the touchscreen.

It remains only to add that, according to Reuters, Sony Ericsson is the fourth mobile phone manufacturer in the world, and the Swedish-Japanese company has high hopes just on smartphones. It's no secret that in the past two years things have SE is doing very important. The fact is that the SE small range and she missed the train called the "touchscreen" (touch screen), although the SE produces a very decent muzofony and cameraphones.

Warms hands

One day all winter comes ... and warmer Little Extra Help. Company SANYO North America Corporation (SANYO) has released two models of portable hand-held heaters are very convenient size and shape. I think that even in the mitten fit, it will create a unique microclimate. Models are called kairo 'KIR-SE1S (white, pink) and kairo' KIR-SL2S (silver, pink). The first model is powered by batteries, and the second - from rechargeable batteries. Operating time is 3 hours. The initial value of the gadget - $ 35.

Symbian have a new problem

It seems that Symbian back problems, writes Electronista. It is learned that recently two of the best models on this platform, Nokia N97 and Sony Ericsson Satio, were withdrawn from sale because of technical problems, and instead of the first model, Vodafone UK is now offering N97 Mini. According to informed sources, in this case, the reason lies in the software, N97, since the original firmware version of the model allegedly causes failures in its work.

As Sony Ericsson Satio, it turned out, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U have just removed this model with the sale. However, it is not yet available through Orange, T-Mobile UK and Vodafone UK, but many users complain that some bug in the firmware for this model disables the device during the download and installation of some applications. However, Sony Ericsson UK argues that only a small number Satio suffers from this problem, and SE will soon release a patch.

Either way, we can say that these incidents have caused some damage to Symbian. As we know, this platform is not experiencing the best of times and it is yielding its positions in the smartphone market.

It starts with the first sale of a wireless drive.

If you have long wanted to connect an external drive without using a USB-cable, then it is your time. Imation Corp has announced the beginning of sales of the first wireless hard drive with USB - Pro WX. The system works the same as that of any USB-drive, with one exception - the cable is not needed.

Wireless USB technology was developed nearly five years. Transfer by air, according to Imation, reduces the speed. Thus, Pro WX will offer tolko120MB/sek read 15MB/sek record, which is three times smaller than that of plug hard drives with USB 2.0. That is, to record one CD-ROM (about 800MB), will need about 50 seconds. However, the new handles 1.5 TB memory.

Among other things, Imation Pro WX can go into sleep mode to save energy, and back up after pressing a single button. Device is compatible with the systems PC and Mac, and will cost $ 450.

Stantum demonstrated Multitouch touch screen resistive type

Stantum Japan has demonstrated a prototype of a regular touch screen Multitouch, wrote Slash Gear. This platform is based on a Netbook Dell Mini 10 and uses a touch screen resistive type. Although most of the touch screen display in the world belong to the category of capacitive type, it is no secret that the resistive panel more responsive.

As stated, this prototype beautifully "understands" all the gestures, including depression, and in this respect, he differs nothing from the panels of capacitive type. Moreover, it consumes much less energy, and last but not least, to a lesser extent exposed to interference from other wireless networks. According to the Japanese, the cost of such panels substantially lower compared to the displays manufactured using other technologies. Another note that the technology of their production is very simple.

According to the Stantum, the Japanese company plans to start series production of touch panels of this type with sizes ranging from 2.5 to 30 inches. Thus, one can assume that this technology will be used not only in smartphones and MID, but also a full-featured mobile systems and large-format monitors. It is unclear when the first commercial products based on this technology.

Recently, a hacker broke into an amateur online store anti-virus software manufacturer Symantec, reports Softpedia. Responsibility for the hacking took the well-known in certain circles Romanians named Unu, published a post about this in his blog.

Jack of all trades from Romania had already lit up, crashing websites of antivirus companies: this year, he likewise made nervous by Kaspersky Lab. In addition, the same hacker has found a number of vulnerabilities in the applications to work with Facebook.

At this time the "lucky» Symantec: hackers use SQL-injection to obtain access to the database site pcd.symantec.com. As a result, he managed to get a lot of important information, including data about customers and their purchases, as well as the database directory store. However, interestingly, passwords are stored in an unencrypted form.

"It is strange that a company that distributes security software, including the famous anti-virus Norton, is taken to protect someone, but she can not defend itself" - lamented Unu.

Representatives of Symantec acknowledged the vulnerability, and added that the incident affected only users from Japan and South Korea. All other consumer software companies around the world need not worry.

Another world smallest USB-flash drive for 16 GB

Well-known manufacturer of memory modules company Active Media announced the release of "the smallest in the world» USB-flash drives at 16 GB. It is not known whether she is whether it is small, but the fact that she was quite tiny - a fact: it amounts to only 3,05 x 1,27 x 0,25 cm

The surface of the device is decorated with winking emoticon. By the way, flash drive is available in several different ways - ranging from 2 GB. Price starts from 8 new items and ends with $ 38.

Developers DiamonDisc argue that this media will be able to store data 1000 years

By recording information on optical discs, not all users think about the durability of these carriers. Despite the optimistic assurances of manufacturers, the disc may well prove to be unreadable in just a couple of years. It is possible that the need for durable and reliable storage of information to satisfy the development of the young company Cranberry.

According to the developer carrier, known as DiamonDisc, he is able to store recorded data for 1000 years. This estimate was obtained by results of laboratory tests ECMA-379, taking into account the impact of factors of temperature and humidity.

Disc complies with the standard DVD, so take the information from it can drive a computer or home player. The volume of single-layer disc is 4.7 GB. DiamonDisc secret of longevity lies in the fact that it does not use materials degraded quickly over time. A side effect of waiver of such materials has become resistant to high temperatures drive: without prejudice to the media drive can withstand heat up to 80 ° C. Check the validity of this assertion can be right now. With regard to the durability of Cranberry, confirm it in practice will only our descendants (and even then, only if in addition to titles they will have more and DVD-drive).

At this good news ends and begins is not quite pleasant. To record will have to use a special burner cost $ 4995, designed for connection to the port USB. However, for this amount, in addition to the device itself, the buyer gets a 150 drive DiamonDiscs.

The Japanese have created a remote control without batteries!

Undoubtedly, the remote control - a useful thing. But there's one feature of these devices, which is annoying. Their batteries sit in the most inopportune moment. Of course, you can run to the shop and buy a couple of batteries, but really this is the way of the Samurai?

Of course not. Therefore, the Japanese and came up with a remote control, which does not need batteries. Developed this device engineers and NEC Soundpower.

The secret of this wonder-console is a special generator. It produces the right amount of energy through the conversion of vibrations arising in the time of pressing the button.

The developers emphasize that the energy one click is enough to perform most functions. For example, on and off the TV, adjust the volume and switch between channels.

Work on this control has not yet been completed, and submitted the sample sizes are so large. But the NEC and Soundpower hope that commercial samples of such devices will appear in 2011.

Meet: the operating system from Google!

Announcement of the operating system, Google Chrome OS took place in the middle of this year. But then the world's largest search engine a little bit about your new product. Now Google has shared details about Chrome OS and formally introduced it. Moreover, the network laid out source code Chrome OS.

The basis of this operating system is the core of Linux. However, Chrome OS includes many other components, including the unique. The latter were developed in Google specifically for that operating system.

Google is positioning Chrome OS as an operating system for the netbook and nettop. And it may be as computers with an x86 chip, and with the ARM. Already, Google Operating System works with a multitude of multimedia formats, supports advanced communication technologies, and support for HTML5 it is implemented at the kernel level.

In Google stressed that the development of Chrome OS rested on three principles: speed, security and simplicity. So, how to implement the first of which was demonstrated at the presentation Chrome OS - operating system is booted in 7 seconds.

Another feature of Chrome OS - compactness. It takes place in ten times less than Windows 7. However, with hard drives operating system Google is not working. For her approach only computers with flash memory.

Externally, the operating system very similar to the Google browser Chrome. It also consists of tabs. But open they did not only websites, but also various applications. Among the latter, as all the services Google, and solutions for working with Facebook, Twitter, Hulu.

Currently, nearly completed the application menu for the Chrome OS, file manager, start menu. However, many elements still to be finalized. According to plans of Google, stable version of Chrome OS will be released in 2010. But some manufacturers promised to release notebooks based on this platform in October.

Russian hackers have learned the truth !!!

Hackers, presumably from Russia, broke into the server of the University of East Anglia and laid out in the Internet correspondence scientists. Abducted emeyly indicate that the temperature on Earth in recent years has increased, and, conversely, is lowered, said resource Examiner.com.

Publicity received correspondence of British and American scientists, as well as representatives from NASA. Link to the server, where the letters were laid out, locked. However, extracts from the reports and commentaries can be found on the Internet.

Of particular interest was the statement by the British scientist Phil Jones (Phil Jones): «But what Mike has done one trick, increased temperature for each period over the past 20 years (since 1981) to hide the fact that it goes down."

In a statement, Phil Jones, published on the website of the Center for Research on Climate University of East Anglia, confirmed the authenticity of the letter. However, in a communication scholar refers to certain unrelated to the study of charts, which he discussed with a colleague. In addition, he claims that he used the word "trick", as colloquial.

Earlier, Russia's hackers often shone in various media. But the reasons for the messages have been more sad. For example, recently they have been left without nine million bank RBS WorldPay Inc., And in the summer numbers stolen tens of millions of credit cards.

Destroyer of the Earth once again earned

When in September last year, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) broke down, many breathed a sigh of relief. After all, this meant that the expected after the launch of this thing doomsday postponed. But it looks like a quiet life of pessimists over.

Physicists at the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) last Friday launched the Large Hadron Collider. According to scientists, the beams of protons successfully pass around the perimeter of the collider. No failures not observed.

Less than a day, researchers have achieved greater success than in September 2008, when the LHC was first launched. Push beams in the collider physics going on this week.

This collision of protons is most frightening. Many fear that arise as a result of "black hole", which is gradually sucked into the earth and our planet will disappear.

Recall that the LHC was first launched in autumn 2008. But he soon broke down. Repair collider was completed in October 2009, but in early November, it took a new failure.

Large Hadron Collider is the world's largest accelerator of elementary particles. It is a 27-kilometer tunnel is closed, scatter the beams of particles in which 53 of superconducting magnet. They operate at temperatures close to absolute zero.

Ghostbusters Papercraft: PKE Meter & Ghost Trap

DeviantART user Cyberdrone has done some creative reworking of the glue-less Cubee paper toy template to create some awesome Ghostbusters movie props. On the left is a psycho kinetic energy (PKE) meter which the Ghostbusters use to detect the presence of ghosts. On the right is a ghost trap used to contain ghosts after they are captured. Check out these and other custom Ghostbusters Cubee creations on Cyberdrone's page here.

NASA Papercraft: ARES Mars Airplane

The folks at NASA are working on a pilot-less, rocket-powered airplane to perform an Aerial Regional-scale Environmental Survey of Mars ("ARES" for short). If eventually deployed, the ARES Mars Airplane will record information previously unobtainable on the atmosphere, surface and interior of Mars. The ARES design team has posted a 1:36 scale papercraft version of the Mars Airplane that actually flies. Look at the bottom of the page here to find the template.

Harry Potter Papercraft: Death Eater Mask #7

Here is the final mask in the Death Eater mask series. Some officially licensed product manufacturers list masks similar to this one as "Bellatrix's mask" while other sources indicate that a mask design like my papercraft Death Eater Mask #1 is the mask of Bellatrix Lestrange. If there is a Harry Potter fan out there who can clear up this discrepancy, please let me know. :) The template for Mask #7 may be downloaded here.

Burger King Paper Toy

From television commercials, you are probably familiar with Burger King's advertising mascot, "The King". Well, here is a paper toy version of the mischievous fellow. The creation of deviantART member "Archer-1", this papercraft king has been carefully detailed to match the features of the original King right down to each piece of jewelry. If you should feel like making a King of your own, the four piece template is located here. Hmm, strange, I suddenly feel the urge to go buy a Whopper. :)

One Year Anniversary!

Today marks the first anniversary of Tektonten Papercraft! Above is a photo of a shelf in my office where I keep some of the papercraft I have built in the past year. Seven of the papercraft models shown were designed by me while the rest were built from templates downloaded from the Internet. I thought I would take this occasion to share some of the stats for Tektonten Papercraft's first year...

  • Number of page views: just under 500,000
  • Number of downloads of my papercraft designs: 36,000 and counting
  • Number of original papercraft designs: 41

The top ten most popular papercraft I created from November 2008 to September 2009 (based on average downloads per day) are:

--------Papercraft----------------Days Posted-------Avg. Downloads / day--------
1) Death Eater Mask #1................46.......................20.7
2) Death Eater Mask #2................40.......................13.4
3) Full Size Tron Helmet...............104.......................9.9
4) HAL9000 Interface..................353.......................8.9

Here's a big "Thank you!" to everyone who supported my efforts in the past year. God willing, I am looking forward to another productive year of papercrafting fun.

Jeep Cherokee Papercraft

I don't want to use the word "obsessed", but Japanese papercrafter Masanori Shimozato is definitely enthusiastic about Jeep Cherokees. Shimozato's papercraft webpage has models of what appears to be every color and trim package available for the 1996 Jeep Cherokee (and that includes both the US and Japanese versions of the vehicle!). To download a template of one of the 47 different Cherokees, take a look here.

Harry Potter Papercraft: Death Eater Mask #6

Only one more papercraft Death Eater mask to go in the series after this one... This mask is based on a photograph of a metal mask like mask #3. Full size and half size templates are available here. In case you missed the five previous masks, they can be found through the following links:
